Agra - Golden Triangle Tour
Agra, on the bank of the Yamuna River, falls in the religious state of Uttar Pradesh. Sultan Sikandar Lodi is regarded as the founder of Agra, as the city was founded in 1506. Several Moghul wonders and architectural brilliance, with the tag of UNESCO world heritage sites, dominate the city. Agra had always featured in the most authoritative towns under the Mughals, thus had seen plethora of monumental activities.
Agra witnessed most of its growth under the rule of the great Akbar. It was given a complete facelift and a type of transformation to further enhance the lifestyle and living standard of the common men. Soon enough, the city grew into a center for learning arts, commerce and religion. Jahangir, who came next, laid countless gardens in the interior of the Red Fort or Laal Kila.
The city stunned the entire world when Shah Jahan gave the most cherished tombstone, the Taj Mahal. The monument reminds of a love-saga and the air of true love still wafts in the city to point to that monumental success of 1643.
Taj Mahal is a World Heritage Site and holds the unrivalled distinction of being among the eight traditional and modern day’s wonders. Millions of tourists from all across the globe throng the city to give a look to the Taj. Plenty has already been written on the famous and white-marbled Taj, and its beauty and grandeur need no further description.
Besides the Taj, Agra Fort holds historical significance and was built by Akbar in 1565. The fort had once served as the stronghold of Shah Jehan who was more inclined towards architecture and artistic brilliance. The Fort comprises some of the finest buildings like the Pearl Mosque, the Diwan-e-Am and Diwan-e-Khas, Jehangir's Palace, Khaas Mahal, Sheesh Mahal and Musamman Burj.
Fatehpur Sikri is another tourist spot just about an hour drive from the city, built for military by Akbar. The place comprises many sightseeing aspects like Itmad-Ud-Daulah's Tomb, Jama Masjid, Chini Ka Rauza, Sikandra-Akbar's tomb etc. Once you visit the city of Agra, it would be not prudent to skip Fatehpur Sikri.
