Pushkar Cattle Fair
Pushkar cattle and camel fair is a grand event held on the Kartik Purnima day falling in the month of October or November every year and continues for around five days. Each year, up to 200,000 people flock to Pushkar for the Camel Fair, bringing with them some 50,000 camels and cattle for several days of pilgrimage, horse dealing, camel racing and colourful festivities. The Rajasthan tourist office has promoted the fair as an international attraction by adding Rajasthan dance programs and other cultural events and by putting up a huge ten city for the Indian and foreign visitor. Besides the celebrations of the Pushkar Fair, the town of Pushkar offers several places of tourist interest too like its temples, Pushkar Lake and ghats.
Livestock owners from all over the country meet at Pushkar to trade these important animal species. The fair at Pushkar involves not only livestock trading but also pilgrimage and festivities. It is also the time when Hindu devotees come here to take a dip in the holy waters of the sacred Pushkar Lake, to wash away their sins. By Bus
Ajmer main bus stand is nearly 11 km away. Many public transport buses pass through Pushkar. Ajmer is well-connected with all major cities nearby. Deluxe Super Deluxe and Volvo buses provide services from Delhi, Jaipur and Jaisalmer to Ajmer. The bus fare ranges between Rs 3 to Rs 4 per km.
By Train
Ajmer is the nearest railway station to Pushkar. This railhead is on the Broad Gauge line and is connected to all cities in India by trains. Ajmer is about 11 km away from Pushkar and taxi fare from Ajmer to Pushkar is about Rs 200.
Getting Around
Pushkar is a relatively small town and easy enough to get around on foot there are no auto-rickshaw in the town center. A bicycle is best to get around.
